Make Training Work With These Simple Tips!
Bringing home a new puppy is a joyful day. That said, they can become overwhelming quickly. You may be exasperated as you are picking up after another mess your dog made. You can relive the happiness you had when you first taught your new puppy to behave. The piece that follows provides terrific tips for training your beloved dog.
It takes a while for a dog to get comfortable in a crate. Don’t take it too fast; introduce the dog at his own pace. After they become used to each individual step and do not mind going inside the crate, try shutting the door and giving them treats with the door closed. Keep the gate closed for short periods of time, and work your way up to longer times. If the puppy becomes upset, you may be progressing too quickly.
Try to think like your dog. Frustration can be easily acquired if the dog fails to learn simple things in a rapid manner. Rather than abandoning the training, consider what the dog might be thinking. Your training will improve if you view things the way they do.
When tying up your dog, make sure it is not close to another chained dog. The restraints for each dog can become tangled and in an effort to free themselves, they can be injured. In the worst case, a large dog might be able to strangle or crush a smaller one, entirely by accident, while trying to free itself.
Keep in mind that you’ll have to do a lot of repetition in order to each your dog new commands. It isn’t uncommon for 25-50 repetitions of this same command to be used for the dog to understand it. Keep teaching it and be patient. The dog will learn in time.
If you plan to incorporate a crate in canine training, choose one that corresponds to the size of your dog. Puppies will get bigger. You must be able to accommodate the growth your puppy will experience as he ages. A larger crate allows for continued comfort and happiness. The crate should be big enough for the dog to turn and lie down comfortably without feeling cramped.
As you are working to house train your pet, select a single term or phrase that you will use. Every single time you take your pup to do his business, say something like “need to go out?”. It does not matter the phrase you choose, as long as you keep it consistent. This will keep him focused, and will teach him to associate those words with the action of relieving himself.
Training means lots of love, patience and plenty of treats. The tips above should have showed you how to get that new puppy on the right track to being a great companion in the future. Although changes may take awhile to happen, consistency will lead to happiness, for both you and your dog.
